Delhi-NCR Implements Graded Response Action Plan to Combat Rising Pollution
Strict Measures Targeting Construction Sector and Air Quality Improvement
In a decisive move to curb escalating pollution levels in Delhi-NCR, the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been officially implemented. This initiative introduces stringent regulations that will directly impact the real estate sector, mandating developers to adhere to strict guidelines and halt construction activities when pollution levels rise.
Understanding the GRAP-1 Framework
GRAP-1 is triggered when the Air Quality Index (AQI) surpasses 200. Under this framework, the use of coal and wood in hotels and restaurants is entirely prohibited. There will also be enhanced scrutiny of older petrol (BS-III) and diesel (BS-IV) vehicles. Measures to control dust during construction and demolition activities, alongside proper management of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, are to be strictly enforced. Notably, projects on plots larger than 500 square meters that are not registered on the relevant web portal will face a ban on C&D activities.
Developers’ Perspective on GRAP Implementation
Industry leaders see the GRAP regulations as an opportunity for innovation. As per experts, compliance with these rules can lead to improved construction processes and enhanced environmental responsibility. Developers are encouraged to invest in green solutions such as better material storage and effective emission management, ultimately contributing to a cleaner and healthier Delhi-NCR.
The chairman of a leading real estate firm emphasized that adherence to GRAP-1 is a top priority, underscoring its critical role in safeguarding the environment.
Experts from various companies, including major developers, have expressed their commitment to implementing GRAP Stage-I measures. They acknowledge the importance of these regulations in addressing pollution and improving air quality, emphasizing collaborative efforts to reduce emissions from construction and other sources.
A Collective Effort Towards Sustainable Development
As the GRAP becomes a cornerstone of pollution control in the region, the focus remains on fostering sustainable development. The implementation of these measures not only aims to enhance air quality but also encourages the real estate sector to play a pivotal role in environmental stewardship, benefiting communities and future generations alike.
